Course Description

This ensemble provides students completing the Bachelor of Music in Commercial Music (BMCM) degree with an opportunity to synthesize skills learned in required courses, including music theory, commercial arranging, music technology, private lessons, and music business. The course is required once during the senior year for the BMCM program.

Justification

This course fulfills a performance elective requirement for all students seeking the BMCM degree at Snow College. Other degree programs offering Commercial Music emphasis offer similar courses. Students will have an opportunity to put theoretical knowledge into practice prior to entering the workforce.

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Students will demonstrate requisite technical and interpretive skills to perform contemporary music from a variety of styles and genres.
  2. Students will be able to apply knowledge from audio production and music technology to the effective production and performance of ensemble concerts
  3. Students will be able to apply knowledge of transcription, composition, scoring, and arranging skills to create charts for this ensemble.
  4. Students will be able to apply music business skills to the promotion of events for this ensemble.

Course Content

This class may draw on the following skill and knowledge building areas.1. Students will prepare and perform contemporary music from a variety of styles and genres.2.
