Alisha Redelfs - 2001 Alum

 

1. Where you are currently employed? 

The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston as a research associate in Public Health. 

2. What are your hobbies? 

Outdoor sports, reading, basketball. 

3. How did Snow College contribute to your accomplishments? 

The close-knit atmosphere at Snow allowed me to really get to know people, both in developing good friendships with students and by providing me with great mentors among the faculty. I played Women's Basketball under Jaime White during my time at Snow, with my most important take-away lesson being that you can come out on top in just about any situation if you are willing to put in the time and effort required. As I have gone through life and graduate school (both masters and doctorate), I have often been grateful for those memories! I don't believe I would have survived my doctoral studies if I hadn't learned those important lessons.

4. What is your most memorable moment at Snow College? 

Winning the Women's Basketball Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) championship two years in a row. The key moment was when we all jumped on top of each other at center court at the Utah Valley State University basketball arena after my teammate Casey Cooke (Sundquist) hit a last second three pointer for us to win (1999-2000). 

5. What additional information would you like alumni to know about you? 

I currently work in obesity and diabetes prevention, with a focus on Hispanic populations. I just graduated in Dec 2013 and am excited about now having the skills to give back to today's youth and to my community as a professor of public health. I am married to Reuben Redelfs of El Paso, Texas, and have a 14 year old step son, Kristian, and an 8 month old daughter, Micah.
