This workshop is designed for artists who desire to learn the skills necessary to fabricate simple picture frames using dimensional lumber from local hardware stores or home centers. Participants will learn the proper use and safety of various carpentry hand tools and power equipment required for the construction of wooden frames. Training will include ripping custom stock on the table saw, mitered corner assembly, including adhesives, pneumatic fasteners, splines construction, sanding, and finishes. Professional matting practices, glazing, archival image mounting, hanging hardware, and gallery practices will be included as part of the workshop. Participants should bring various 2D works (drawings, collage, oil paintings, photographs, prints, watercolors, etc.) to be matted and framed. By the end of the week, each participant will complete multiple exhibition-ready matted, glazed, and framed works produced at a fraction of the cost of relying on retail frame shops. This workshop is open to participants at any level of experience.
